Robert Borden Named U.S. General Services Administration Chief of Staff

GSA taps Mark McHale to be new Associate Administrator for the Office of Strategic Communication


Washington, DC - - (June 12, 2018) - - The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) today announced the appointment of Robert Borden to serve as chief of staff. An appointee of President Donald J. Trump, Borden will use his extensive congressional experience to support the agency in its mission to deliver value and savings in real estate, acquisition, technology, and other mission-support services across government.

GSA also announced that Mark McHale has been appointed as associate administrator for the office of strategic communication.

Borden comes to GSA with broad management, policy, legal and public leadership experience. Most recently, he served as the deputy staff director for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Borden’s more than 20 years of experience on Capitol Hill also included service as the director of oversight for House Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leaders Eric Cantor and Kevin McCarthy, general counsel to the House Oversight and Government Reform and the Education and the Workforce Committees, and as counsel to the select committees that investigated the Benghazi terrorist attacks and the response to Hurricane Katrina.

McHale has more than 25 years of experience as a senior communications leader in Fortune 100 companies, the wireless technology sector and public affairs agencies. As associate administrator, McHale oversees nationwide communication initiatives for GSA and ensures the agency’s strategic communication activities align with the its mission and priorities.
