U.S. Department of Labor to Offer Wage Seminar in Richmond



Richmond, VA - - (May 4, 2018) - - In keeping with its mission to protect the American workforce, the U.S. Department of Labor will hold a seminar on Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) in Richmond on May 16. Hosted by the Department’s Wage and Hour Division, the event will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with registration beginning at 8 a.m. at the Federal Office Building on 400 N. 8th St. Admission is free.

Section 14(c) of the FLSA is designed to offer more job opportunities for workers with disabilities when their disability affects their productive capacity for the work being performed. The seminar will cover topics including the 14(c) certification process, prevailing wage surveys, and time studies. It will also address provisions of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 (WIOA).

“The U.S. Department of Labor takes FLSA and WIOA seriously, and it is essential that employers, community rehabilitation programs, and others fully understand the law and the rules that apply to employing workers with disabilities,” said Wage and Hour Division Deputy Administrator Patricia Davidson.
