Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Final Investigation Update of a Multistate Outbreak of Salmonella Infections linked to Pre-cut Melon



(July 26, 2018) - - Today, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published the following information:


A CDC final investigation update of a multistate outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to pre-cut melon has been posted: https://www.cdc.gov/salmonella/adela...-18/index.html. This outbreak appears to be over.

Updates:

There were a total of 77 ill people reported from 9 states, including 36 who were hospitalized.
No deaths were reported.
The last illness started on July 2, 2018.

In general, CDC recommends that consumers, restaurants, and retailers choose and handle fruit safely to help prevent foodborne illnesses.
Wash hands and food preparation surfaces before and after preparing fruit.
Refrigerate pre-cut fruit at 40ºF or colder.
