Extended Deterrence Dialogue Between the United States and Japan

Washington, DC - - (October 29, 2018) - - Today the U.S. Department of State's Office of the Spokesperson published the following information:

The United States and Japan will hold a session of the Extended Deterrence Dialogue (EDD) on October 29-31 in Tokyo, Japan. The EDD provides an opportunity for the two governments to frankly exchange views on how to maintain and strengthen deterrence as part of their security and defense cooperation. Under the framework of extended deterrence, the U.S. security commitment to Japan remains ironclad and enduring. The two governments engage in broad and ongoing discussions on deterrence issues within the U.S.-Japan Alliance, and have held the EDD on a regular basis since 2010.
