Today, Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued the following statement regarding the court’s ruling in the Eastern District of California declaring California Senate Bill 50 (SB 50) unconstitutional:
“The court’s ruling is a firm rejection of California’s assertion that, by legislation, it could dictate how and when the federal government sells federal land. This was a stunning assertion of constitutional power by California, and it was properly and promptly dismissed by the district judge. It is unfortunate that, in the interim, California forced both the Justice Department and the court to spend valuable time and resources to dispose of its baseless...

Governor Kim Reynolds
Des Moines, Iowa - - (May 4, 2018) - - Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds released the following statement Friday after signing the heartbeat bill, Senate File 359:
I believe that all innocent life is precious and sacred, and as governor, I pledged to do everything in my power to protect it. That is what I am doing today. I understand that not everyone will agree with this decision. But if death is determined when a heart stops beating, then doesn't a beating heart indicate life? For me, it is immoral to stop an innocent beating heart. For me, it is sickening to sell fetal body parts. For me, my faith leads me to protect every Iowan, no matter how small. “I understand and anticipate that this will likely be c... -

Agriculture Secretary Perdue Statement on Release of 2018 Farm Bill
Washington, DC - - (April 12, 2018) - - U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today issued the following statement on the release of the 2018 Farm Bill: “I applaud Chairman Conaway and the House Agriculture Committee for their diligence and hard work in crafting the 2018 Farm Bill. The trend of low commodity prices over recent years and headlines about trade disputes have caused anxiety among agricultural producers these days, so this legislation is critically important to give them some much-needed reassurance. In my travels across the country, I have found that farmers have confidence in President Trump’s ability to negotiate strong trade deals with other nations, but they also want a strong, bipartisan Farm Bill that puts their needs above Washington, D.C. politics. While there is still much work t... -

New Communications Workers of America Report Details Bank Offshoring Practices; Senator Sherrod Brown Offers Solutions on Press Call with Affected Workers
March 9, 2018
Washington, DC - - (March 6, 2018) - - The banking industry is among the biggest beneficiaries from the Republican tax bill passed in December 2017. Yet many U.S. banks have been aggressively offshoring U.S. jobs, especially in the call center and customer service industry, to low-wage countries. Despite these offshoring practices, and their financial windfall from the tax bill, there is no movement from the big banks to return jobs from overseas. In fact, leading analysts believe that the tax bill will encourage the additional offshoring of American jobs. On a press call held today, Senator Sherrod Bro... -
