Census Bureau Statement on Redistricting Data Timeline | site |

(Information contained in U.S. Census Bureau press release dated: February 12, 2021) February 12, 2021 - - The U.S. Census Bureau announced today that it will deliver the Public Law 94-171 redistricting data to all states by Sept. 30, 2021. COVID-19-related delays and prioritizing the delivery of the apportionment results delayed the Census Bureau’s original plan to deliver the redistricting data to the states by March 31, 2021. Different from previous censuses, the Census Bureau will deliver the data for all states at once, instead of on a flow basis. This change has been made because of COVID-19-related shifts in data collection and in the data processing schedule and it enables the Census Bureau to deliver complete and accurate redistricting data in a more timely fashion overall for the states. The redistricting data includes counts of population by race, ethnicity (Hispanic or Lat...

U.S. Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo Approves New Cyberspace Security and Emerging Technologies Bureau | site |

(Information contained in U.S. Department of State's Office of the Spokesperson press release media note dated: January 7, 2021) Secretary Pompeo has approved the creation of the Bureau of Cyberspace Security and Emerging Technologies (CSET) and has directed the Department to move forward with standing up the bureau. The need to reorganize and resource America’s cyberspace and emerging technology security diplomacy through the creation of CSET is critical, as the challenges to U.S. national security presented by China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, and other cyber and emerging technology competitors and adversaries have only increased since the Department notified Congress in June 2019 of its intent to create CSET. The CSET bureau will lead U.S. government diplomatic efforts on a wide range of international cyberspace security and...

Census Bureau Statement on Nonresponse Followup Reinterview | site |

(Information contained in U.S. Census Bureau press release dated: December 31, 2020) DEC. 31, 2020 - - The 2020 Census data collection contained numerous quality checks, including analyzing data about census takers’ work and reinterviewing cases where the data suggested a potential problem. Every completed case and every census taker’s work went through a battery of checks designed to spot unusual patterns of work, called analytic selection. If the analytical process indicated a census taker had zero cases selected for review, it was an indication that nothing was out of the ordinary about their work characteristics. The analytic selection techniques were sufficient for detecting unusual patterns of work, alleviating the need to check every census taker and tens of millions of results through reinterviews. During part of the Nonresponse Followup operation (from August 3 to Septe...

Census Bureau Update on 2020 Census | site |

(Information contained in U.S. Census Bureau press release dated: December 30, 2020)

DEC. 30, 2020 - - Data collection is just one part of producing a complete and accurate 2020 Census. Since mid-October, Census Bureau experts have been hard at work on processing the data.

As issues that could affect the accuracy of the data are detected, they are corrected. This important process, which has been a part of every decennial census, is critical to produce data that can be used for apportioning seats in the House of Representatives among the states.

The schedule for reporting this data is not static. Projected dates are fluid. We continue to process the data collected and plan to deliver a complete and accurate state population count for apportionment in early 2021, as close to the statutory deadline as possible.
