    Washington - - In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, since March 2020, the Department of Veterans Affairs has completed 150 Fourth Mission assignments nationwide.

    COVID-19 mission assignments are carried out in coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Administration.

    Assignments range in scope from:
    • Deploying staff to other VA facilities.
    • Placing VA staff in community medical and long-term care facilities.
    • Caring for civilian in-patients at VA facilities.
    • Helping local governments in need of COVID-19 testing, vaccines and staff.

    Today, NHTSA released the Independent Takata Monitor’s fourth report on the state of the Takata air bag recalls. In 2020, there were nearly 5 million additional repairs of defective air bag inflators, and as of December 2020, thirteen vehicle manufacturers were reporting total completion percentages of at least 70%, seven at least 80%, and one over 90%. As of January 2021, approximately 67 million inflators are under recall for nineteen affected vehicle manufacturers, of which approximately 50 million have been repaired or are otherwise accounted for. Unrepaired air bags can explode when deployed, causing serious injury or even death.     (Information contained in National Institutes of Health [NIH] press release: November 25, 2020) The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), one of the National Institutes of Health, today announced that the fourth iteration of the Adaptive COVID-19 Treatment Trial (ACTT-4) has begun to enroll hospitalized adults with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who require supplemental oxygen. The NIAID-sponsored trial will enroll up to 1,500 patients at approximately 100 sites in the United States and other countries. Participants will be assigned at random to one of two treatment arms of equal size. One group will receive both dexamethasone, a corticosteroid available as a generic drug, and remdesivir, a broad-spectrum antiviral discovered and developed by Gilead Sciences, Inc., of Foster City, California.     (October 23, 2020) - - Today, October 23, 2020, the U.S. Department of Agriculture published the following information:

    (Washington, D.C., Oct. 23, 2020) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced it has authorized $500 million for a fourth round of purchases for the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program. USDA is issuing solicitations for the fourth round to existing Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) holders and expects to award contracts by Oct. 30 for deliveries of food boxes from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31, 2020. In the fourth round, as in the third round, states have been allocated boxes based on the internal need of the state. The program will continue the purchase of combination boxes to include fresh produce, dairy products, fluid milk and meat products. The program also will continue to require that proposals illustrate
