    The United States strongly condemns the use of harsh tactics against protesters and journalists this weekend in cities throughout Russia. Prior to today’s events, the Russian government sought to suppress the rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression by harassing protest organizers, threatening social media platforms, and pre-emptively arresting potential participants.     (January 16, 2020) - - The Office of the Spokesperson of the United States Department of State provided (today) the following information: Today, Assistant Secretary for International Security and Nonproliferation Dr. Christopher A. Ford, who has been delegated the authorities and functions of the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, led a U.S. interagency delegation to Vienna, Austria, to participate in a U.S.-Russia Strategic Security Dialogue. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov led the Russian delegation. The Strategic Security Dialogue last took place on July 17, 2019, in Geneva, Switzerland, led by former Deputy Secretary John Sullivan.     Washington, DC - - (November 12, 2018) - - Today, U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Heather Nauert issued the following statement: The United States joins our European Allies and partners in condemning the November 11 sham “elections” in Russia-controlled eastern Ukraine. Yesterday’s illegitimate processes were an attempt by Moscow to institutionalize its Donbas proxies, the so-called “Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics.” These entities have no place within the Minsk agreements or within Ukraine’s constitutional government, and they should be dismantled along with the illegal armed formations.
